    Ken is leaving for Winnipeg

Anyone who has attended St Edward’s in the past year or so will certainly know Ken.  He has served our community as altar server for well over a year.  He is heading to Winnipeg, Manitoba on Monday.  To be honest he does not want to leave, but his process to permanent residency is expected to be more than twice as fast in Manitoba than here in Quebec and that means that he will be able to bring his family to Canada that much faster.

Ken first came to St Edward’s in the fall of 2023, a refugee and stranger to Canada staying in a motel just up St John’s.  We welcomed Ken and his fellow refugee, Innocent, with open arms.  We quickly learned that they were Completely unprepared for winter in Canada and, so that same day, we made got them outfitted with winter boots, coats, hats and gloves.  Through God’s grace we were given an opportunity to help two young men in need and we did!  Over the past two years, Ken has integrated himself into our community with quiet consistency and a servant’s heart participating in the liturgy through altar serving. Although Ken is not in a position to donate money, he gives what he can: time and love for our community.

We will have a special celebration for Ken after Mass on Sunday.  There will be a farewell card available before Mass that you are welcome to sign as well as a basket for donations that will be given to Ken to help him with expenses in Winnipeg while he searches for accommodation and work.  If you would like to contribute to this gift to Ken but cannot attend Mass this Sunday, you can contribute through e-transfer. Send your donation through the Helping Others at saintedwardgivingsho@gmail.com.  In the comments please include your name and that the donation is for Ken.  Donations made through e-transfer will be eligible for income tax receipts.

Tea and Bake Sale – November 22

Our annual Christmas sale will take place on Saturday, November 22, and we need many hands to ensure that it is a success.  The tearoom will need at least 21 loaves of sandwiches and bake goods for desserts.  Please cut the crusts from your sandwiches and bake goods for the tearoom cannot contain nuts.  We also need bake goods for the bake table.  Please label your donations with the major ingredients used and nuts are welcomed for the bake table.  There are sign-up sheets at the church for these needs and other ways that you can contribute.  If you cannot get to the church but want to contribute, then call the church phone number, 514-426-4523, and leave a message about how you can help.

The raffle table can also use some help.  If you have a connection to a local business that can donate a product or gift certificate, please approach them.  If you are an amateur artist and would like to donate a painting, please bring it to the church.  We are specifically looking for members of our parish who can donate their own artistic accomplishments.
